Can you tell which stride looks better? |
![]() ![]() |
The screenshots above were taken at a point during the stride called Initial Contact Initial Contact is the first instance your foot contacts the ground and is one of the first things I look at when doing a running gait analysis The key areas I’m looking at during this moment (in no particular order) are: 1. Knee flexion angle 2. Foot strike 3. Distance from hip Looking at the image on the LEFT you can see a pretty straight knee, a heel strike pattern, and an over stride Looking at the image on the RIGHT I want to remind you that these images were taken at the point of Initial Contact The image on the RIGHT was NOT taken at a point later in the stride So on the RIGHT we see greater knee bend, a midfoot strike, and a foot that lands close to the body I don’t think you need me to tell you the answer 😉 This runner was able to improve his stride within the EXACT SAME TREATMENT SESSION with some simple education and gait training drills |
